The Big Wakeup Call looks back and says farewell to the unusual Summer of 2021 as we chat with special guests Michael Ian Black, Scott Aukerman, Ben Gleib, Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan, Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Andy Summers from The Police, Dylan Brody, and Bill McCormick! Re-live that exciting 6 weeks when everything seemed possible before unwelcome guest Delta Variant showed up.
The whole show is a fun listen, but if you’d like to skip to the individual chats, here you go!
Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan joined the BWUC Five Timers’ Club when they called in for a chat about Sunday Night’s Oscar ceremony, including the best and worst dressed, any indicators of future fashion trends, who was the most surprisingly dressed, and Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper revisited. Once I get the presses running again in my basement, they’ll get the official 5-timers commemorative t-shirt and certificate of achievement (suitable for framing).
Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan from Go Fug Yourself joined The Big Wakeup Call’s 3 Timers Club when they called in to share their thoughts on the 2018 Met Gala. We debated the proper way to pronounce “Gala,”pronunciations, potential damnations to eternal hellfire, syllabic flow, and of course their most favorite and most fugly costumes.
I had so much fun last week talking to Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan from Go Fug Yourself about throwing an Oscar bash at home that I wanted to have them back on to give their thoughts about the fashions at Sunday night’s ceremonies. We discussed whether or not fashion is “back with a vengeance,” surprise fashion winners, and why after the bonanza of Oscar-related free stuff I got last week this week so far I’ve received nothing. (Perhaps that portion of the segment was slightly self-indulgent.)
TV host, best-selling author, and supermodel Emme called in to discuss the new documentary, “Straight/Curve,” which premieres Wednesday night (June 21) at 8/7c on Epix. The film focuses on the fashion industry’s portrayal of women and the messages it sends, how young women and girls are made to feel “less than” by the images they’re presented, and how we can change the perception (and reality) of what is considered “beautiful.”
Carson Kressley called in to chat about his new book “Does This Book Make My Butt Look Big?” We came up with a no-brainer promotional tie-in for the radio station, I impressed him with my fancy outfit (yep, on the radio), and we discussed how to feel sexier in your own skin and find the personal style that works for you.
Popular designer Christian Siriano dialed us up to talk about his new fall collection for Lane Bryant. We discussed his inspiration for new designs, transitioning from summer to fall, his favorite current fashion trends, and why everyone — of every size and shape — deserves to look their best.
