TV host, best-selling author, and supermodel Emme called in to discuss the new documentary, “Straight/Curve,” which premieres Wednesday night (June 21) at 8/7c on Epix.  The film focuses on the fashion industry’s portrayal of women and the messages it sends, how young women and girls are made to feel “less than” by the images they’re presented, and how we can change the perception (and reality) of what is considered “beautiful.”

Adam Nimoy

Adam Nimoy is the son of legendary actor Leonard Nimoy as well as the director of a new documentary, “For the Love of Spock,” which premieres in theaters and on demand this Friday.   We discussed the successful crowd funding campaign, how he juggled his roles as director/fan/son to give the film a unique perspective, and what he hope’s we’ll learn about Leonard (and Spock).

Stephanie Soechtig, director of “Under the Gun”

Stephanie Soechtig is the director of the new documentary film “Under the Gun,” which was executive produced and narrated by Katie Couric and is now available on iTunes and other digital platforms.  We discussed the inspiration for the film,  how the gun safety issue is manipulated by one major lobbying organization, some of the controversy surrounding the film, and what she hopes viewers will take away from it.

Virginia and Elaine Madsen

Virginia Madsen is the producer and her mom Elaine Madsen the director of an acclaimed documentary, “I Know a Woman Like That,” which is being released on DVD and Digital HD on May 10th.  We discussed the philosophy behind the film, the struggles of getting a film about “old people” distributed, and what viewers of all ages can take away from it.

Jon Mikl Thor on the new “I Am Thor” documentary

Jon Mikl Thor is a former champion bodybuilder turned musician, actor, screenwriter, songwriter and hockey historian.  Jon called in to talk about a new documentary 15 years in making “I Am Thor,” following his return to show business after retiring in 1987.  The film will be screened tonight at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago, followed by Jon doing a live set of his music.

Andrew Muscato, director of “Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports”

Andrew Muscato is the director of “Doped: The Dirty Side of Sports,” a new documentary examining the broken system of substance testing in pro sports.  We discussed Lance Armstrong, testing in the Olympics, Major League Baseball, and how the systems in place tend to be inconsistent and oftentimes arbitrary.
