Adam Ferrara from Top Gear

Adam Ferrara called in to talk about the new season of Top Gear (Thursdays at 8:00 CT on the History Channel).  He also shared stories about his stand-up days and driving 182 miles an hour on the way to the interview.

Henry Zebrowski from NBC’s “A-Z”

Henry Zebrowski was so happy to be calling a station in Chicago, fatherland of “his people.”  It was a very funny chat about getting the part of the best friend/wacky neighbor, comedic timing, the pitfalls of producing a pilot, and alliteration.

Comedian Max Silvestri

Max Silvestri‘s newest album is King Piglet.  He is also part of a new TV show called “The Feed” airing on the FYI Network.  We talked about comedy and his lovely and charming co-host, Gail Simmons.

Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani

The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail airs Wednesday nights at 11:30 on Comedy Central and features frank and explicit scenes that may be unsuitable for more sensitive viewers.  Not for me, I can tell you.   #awkwardbrag

Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al called in to promote his new album, Mandatory Fun.  We talked about his songwriting process, good parody songs vs. bad parody songs, and why it’s still ok to scold Vanilla Ice.

Reggie Watts from “Comedy Bang! Bang!”

Either we woke Reggie up, or he’s so brilliant he did the whole interview in character as a guy who just woke up.

Comedian Ted Alexandro

Ted Alexandro called in to talk about his new web series “Teachers Lounge.”  We also discussed his comedy background, the challenges of making a web series, and how I was wrong.  I was dead wrong, and I will be the first person to admit it.

Comedian Todd Glass

Todd Glass was promoting his new book, THE TODD GLASS SITUATION: A Bunch of Lies About My Personal Life and a Bunch of True Stories About My 30-Year Career in Stand-Up Comedy.  He mentioned during the course of our conversation that this was the best interview he’d done all day.  Was I that good, or was every previous interview with a pair of wacky morning zoo guys?   You decide!

Tom Green

Tom Green has a new show on AXS TV (Mark Cuban’s network), Tom Green Live.  If you’re only familiar with Tom through the old MTV show or his stand-up, you might be surprised to discover he’s a skilled interviewer and really gets his guest to open up.   We talked about the show, cell phones at comedy shows, and the future of ensemble comedy.

Scott Aukerman from Comedy Bang! Bang!

I’m a big fan of “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and was happy to chat with Scott about a kinder, gentler surrealist talk show, comedians being funny without doing “bits,”  and the force of nature that is Reggie Watts.   Next time I’ll have to remember to ask him how he manages to balance work and family.
