Lori Petty called in to chat about the 25th anniversary edition of “A League of Their Own,” now out on Blu-Ray and Digital HD.   We talked about her versatile film career (appearing in films with Janet Jackson, Madonna, Ice-T, Ice Cube and Tupac!), watching yourself from 20 years ago when you’re beautiful and naked, and why I should upgrade from VHS.

Sophie Tweed-Simmons is featured in the new movie “Country Crush,” now available on DVD exclusively at Wal-Mart.  We discussed her role as the naughty girl with no redeeming qualities.

 

Michelle Forbes

Michelle Forbes is an Emmy-nominated actress (both daytime and prime time) and is currently starring in a new drama series for EPIX, “Berlin Station,” which airs Sunday nights at 9/8c.  We discussed filming in Berlin while several huge world events were taking place, the chemistry of the cast (especially working with the amazing Richard Jenkins), and how there’s nothing wrong with a show featuring all adults (on the other side of 40).

Alison Pill

Alison Pill stars in the new movie “Zoom,” which premieres September 2nd in theaters and video on demand.   Along with a discussion of the film, which was shot in both her hometown on Toronto and down in Brazil and features a mix of live action and animation, we also talked about her appearance on “Law and Order” a decade ago, and why she loves comic book fans but has only been to one convention.  Alison is charming, talented and very polite.

Jennie Garth

My son recently discovered “Beverly Hills 90210″ on Hulu and was very excited that Jennie Garth was calling into the show.   We talked about balancing work and family, how she’s able to travel wherever she wants without being detected (hint: don’t alert the media before you go on vacation), and what new projects she has in the works.

Vanessa Williams

Vanessa Williams is a Tony and Emmy nominated actress, a Grammy nominated singer, a best-selling author, a designer, and a busy mom.  Vanessa called in to share some tips on squeezing in some last minute summer fun.  We also talked about her recent appearance on “Broad City” and how the kids are bringing the ’80s back whether we like it or not.

Isabelle Fuhrman

You’ve seen Isabelle Fuhrman as the love-struck murderous child in “The Orphan,” in a memorable role in “The Hunger Games,” and as a troubled teen in “Masters of Sex.”  She’s currently starring in a new film, “Dear Eleanor,” which is out now on digital and DVD.  We discussed her most commonly asked “Hunger Games” question, her work on “The Orphan,” and what it was like to play a person her age back in 1962 in “Dear Eleanor.”

Lynn Whitfield is an Emmy Award-winning actress who is currently starring in the new original drama series “Greenleaf,” which premieres tonight at 9c on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network.  We discussed the concept of the series, how the amazing cast quickly developed their chemistry, and what it’s like to work with Oprah for the third time.

Dawn Wells

Dawn Wells starred as “Mary Ann” on the legendary sitcom “Gilligan’s Island” and is now the marketing ambassador for the “ME-TV” network, which is airing “Gilligan’s Island” weekdays at 8:30CT as part of the “Summer of Me.”  We talked about the timeless appeal of the series, the importance of shows the whole family can watch together, and the possibilities of coconut radios.  Dawn also shared some of her favorite memories of her fellow cast members.

Lake Bell

Lake Bell called in to talk about her new movie “No Escape,” co-starring Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan, which opens nationwide on Friday.   We talked about the real tension and terror she felt while filming, why she was drawn to the role, and the differences in comedic and dramatic timing.  She also called me “the right kind of demented” for my love of “Children’s Hospital.”
