Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al called in to promote his new album, Mandatory Fun.  We talked about his songwriting process, good parody songs vs. bad parody songs, and why it’s still ok to scold Vanilla Ice.

Reggie Watts from “Comedy Bang! Bang!”

Either we woke Reggie up, or he’s so brilliant he did the whole interview in character as a guy who just woke up.

Comedian Ted Alexandro

Ted Alexandro called in to talk about his new web series “Teachers Lounge.”  We also discussed his comedy background, the challenges of making a web series, and how I was wrong.  I was dead wrong, and I will be the first person to admit it.

Actor/Director Eriq LaSalle

When NBC needed someone to bring some medical drama experience to their new series “The Night Shift,” they called in Eriq LaSalle.  Eriq called in to promote the episode he directed, and talked about what makes a director an “actor’s director.”

Ian McLagan from Small Faces

I cannot overstate how important an influence the Small Faces have been to me as a music fan, songwriter and musician.  It was fantastic to spend a few minutes with the legendary Ian McLagan to talk about his new album, United States.  Ian also mentioned a few things he’ll personally require before reuniting with Rod Stewart.

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels

Music icon Darryl “DMC” McDaniels called in to talk about a cancer awareness event he was hosting.  He also did a freestyle rap for me at the end of the interview.  If my 16-year-old self is somehow reading this:  Yes.  This happens in the future.

Bianca Kajlich from “Undateable”

Comedy veteran Bianca Kajlich plays Leslie Burton on NBC’s hit summer series “Undateable.”  She dished the dirt on what makes a successful ensemble comedy.

Comedian Todd Glass

Todd Glass was promoting his new book, THE TODD GLASS SITUATION: A Bunch of Lies About My Personal Life and a Bunch of True Stories About My 30-Year Career in Stand-Up Comedy.  He mentioned during the course of our conversation that this was the best interview he’d done all day.  Was I that good, or was every previous interview with a pair of wacky morning zoo guys?   You decide!

Blake Harris, author of “Console Wars”

Blake Harris has written a new book, Console Wars, about the Sega-Nintendo battles of the late 80s and early 90s.  As someone who actually owned a Sega Master System instead of an NES, I found this book fascinating.  Great read.

Marcus Lemonis from “The Profit”

Returning guest Marcus Lemonis called in to share some Blackhawks love, as well as some valuable tips for starting a small business.
